Emirates has signed a preliminary agreement with Crypto.com to integrate cryptocurrency payments into its booking system by 2026. The partnership, announced on July 9, outlines plans to enable customers to use Crypto.com Pay as a direct payment method. Technical and compliance processes are already underway to support the rollout.
An announcement of this partnership was announced on the official Emirates website as of 9.7.25
This makes Emirates one of the first major global airlines to formally adopt digital assets in its core payment infrastructure, moving beyond third-party platforms or gift card models. The collaboration reflects how crypto is steadily becoming embedded in core infrastructure across various industries.
The move aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to position itself as a global crypto hub. With supportive regulation through entities like Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), and widespread digital transformation initiatives, Emirates’ crypto integration fits naturally into the country’s innovation agenda.
The TOKEN2049 conference was held in Dubai earlier this year, one of the many examples of how the UAE has been trying to lead within the crypto industry when it comes to events, oversight and innovation.
While it’s still unclear which assets will be supported at launch, Crypto.com Pay currently handles Bitcoin, Ethereum, and several notable stablecoins. Rollout will depend on technical readiness and regulatory approvals, but the timeline has been set for 2026.
Rather than a short-term marketing play, Emirates appears to be building long-term infrastructure for ´´crypto commerce´´. For the digital asset industry, this represents another step toward normalization within traditional sectors.
We wrote a detailed piece earlier this year on the future of global commerce and why businesses are turning to cryptocurrencies for global transactions.
