2025: The Year of the Crypto IPO

After years of regulatory uncertainty, 2025 is shaping up to be the biggest year yet for crypto IPOs. The lack of clear guidelines from authorities on how current financial regulations apply to cryptocurrencies had created an unpredictable environment for industry participants, but now the tides are turning.

More countries are moving to legalize and create regulatory clarity for digital assets. According to RIVER, more than half of all countries that previously outlawed Bitcoin, have since lifted restrictions.

Why This Matters

The surge in crypto-related IPOs isn’t happening in a vacuum. It reflects three key shifts that are making this moment possible:

  • Regulators Are Now Engaging – Unlike in previous years, regulators are actually moving IPO applications forward rather than stonewalling them. This marks a shift toward greater institutionalization of the crypto industry.
  • Institutional Interest Is Growing – The success of spot Bitcoin ETFs has signaled to institutional investors that crypto is here to stay. Major players are now actively supporting crypto-native firms.

Investor Appetite Remains Strong – Bitcoin hitting all-time highs, ETFs breaking records, and traditional finance firms diving deeper into digital assets all point to strong market demand for exposure.

In light of the recent decline in prices, many companies such as MetaPlanet have been seizing the opportunity to accumulate Bitcoin at a lower price. Announcement via X, MetaPlanet 27.2.25

A Positive Catalyst for the Industry

A wave of successful crypto IPOs means more transparency, credibility, and capital flowing into the sector as a whole. As these firms go public, they not only unlock new investment opportunities but also set the stage for the next era of digital asset adoption. One of the candidates for an IPO, Circle is a global financial technology company that enables businesses to utilize USDC which stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, for efficient payments and commerce. Another company that is considering their own IPO would be Kraken which is a U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange offering trading services for over 200 digital assets and eight fiat currencies.

Bitwise lists out five likely candidates for IPO´s in 2025. All of the abovementioned examples have shown interest in launching IPOs of their own in the future.
